Walt Disney in Rio – 1941

There are lots and lots of Time Life photos of Walt Disney & Co’s trip to Rio, so I’ll try to choose a few select ones to show you.

“In early 1941, before U.S. entry into World War II, the United States Department of State commissioned a Disney goodwill tour of South America, intended to lead to a movie to be shown in South America as part of the Good Neighbor Policy. During 9 weeks, the tour took Walt Disney, his wife Lilly and a group of sixteen artists from Walt Disney Animation, as well as composers from the Walt Disney Studios to South America, to Brazil and other South American countries. The movie, of course, is now known as “Saludos Amigos” and it features the first appearance of the character José Carioca.” – Source: links above
